About the role

Reporting directly to the Board, the incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead HFHA in delivering its current strategic plan, while providing visionary leadership to drive performance and impact across the organisation. A skilled relationship builder and strategic thinker, the CEO will bring strong commercial acumen, sound decision-making, and a compassionate leadership style to help HFHA grow, adapt, and thrive.

A key responsibility of this role is to champion a culture where safety and the safeguarding of vulnerable people are embedded in everything the organisation does. The CEO must ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all staff, volunteers, and communities they work with, upholding HFHA’s commitment to safeguarding standards.

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will have strategic and operational responsibilities including:
  • Strategic & Organisational Leadership: Lead the development and delivery of a focused, sustainable growth strategy aligned with HFHA’s domestic priorities and global mission. Building a high-performing, purpose-driven culture that empowers staff, Affiliates, and volunteers
  • Financial & Operational Stewardship: Ensure long-term sustainability through effective budgeting cost control, and strategic revenue generation and fundraising initiatives. Oversee the efficient use of resources to maximise program impact
  • Regional & Global Influence: Strengthen Australia’s regional position to grow partnerships, expand HFHA’s presence across Asia-Pacific, and contribute to regional international development efforts
  • Public Engagement & Representation: Act as HFHA’s principal spokesperson, enhancing its profile and influence with government, donors, media, and key stakeholders
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance: Support strong Board governance and ensure rigorous safeguarding, risk management, WHS, and regulatory compliance in line with ACFID, DFAT and CHP standards
  • Innovation & Technology: Drive digital transformation to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and stakeholder engagement
  • Volunteer & Community Engagement: Strengthen volunteer programs and align community contributions with strategic objectives to deepen impact.

About you
  
The successful CEO will have:
  • Proven leadership with expertise in housing, advocacy and or social impact initiatives
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in governance, risk management, and compliance to support sustainable growth
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic partnerships with government, donors, and stakeholders, and secure fundraising from diverse sources
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with experience in capitalising on opportunity
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication skills, and inspiring leadership with a proven ability to motivate diverse teams.
Desirable Attributes:   
  • Experience in a mission driven or not for profit organisation
  • Experience in international development and housing projects, with knowledge of the built environment, social justice, government and project delivery
  • Experience within international or federated organisations
  • Postgraduate qualifications or equivalent professional experience
  • Christian ethos
  • Confident public speaker with media and stakeholder engagement experience.
