Volunteering at the Variety Children Christmas Party
On December sixth, a small team of us from Beaumont volunteered at the Variety Children's Charity Christmas party at Qudos Bank Arena.
This unique charity brought together 3900 kids, 2040 carers, 125 entertainers, 12000 presents, 250 volunteers, 10 Samoyed dogs and 1 big hearted Santa to create the BIGGEST Christmas party I for one, have ever seen! Variety, the Children’s Charity supports children and families facing challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with a disability Australia wide. The Ladies of Variety committee, founded in 1980 are responsible for organising the event that has continued to explode to be bigger and better year on year!
At Beaumont, we have had the pleasure of working with Variety for over four years and have been fortunate enough to have volunteered at their annual Christmas party over this time. This year when we asked our Beaumont team who would like to attend, our volunteer spots filled within 5 seconds! We joined another two corporate groups to become face painters for the day. Popular requests this year were Batman, Spiderman, princesses (thankfully there were no requests for Elsa), pretty butterflies, Ben10 and of course the popular Rabbitoh bunny. Who would have known that a group of recruiters had a creative streak? Our team of 24 face painters managed to paint hundreds, possibly thousands of beautiful smiling faces.
Variety did a wonderful job of putting on an event that catered to everyone and created 10,000 smiles in total! Every person, young and old got involved, from rides, balloons, dance workshops, fairies, farm animals and of course who can forget the friendly Santa photo. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, togetherness and thousands of very happy children! Thank you to Variety for allowing us to volunteer again, we absolutely value your contribution to the community and the support that you give to children and their support networks to bring happiness and relief to their lives.
At Beaumont we are generously given three volunteer days a year to be able to support the charity of our choice and we felt extremely lucky to be able to help make this Christmas a memorable and FUN one for these amazing children. I feel honoured to work for a company that values people first, not only at Christmas but all year round!
